After another 12 months of tumult and torment, Real Deals polled more than 13,OOO industry professionals to find the most powerful people in European private equity.
1. Uli Fricke, EVCA
Besieged by regulation and point-scoring politicians - to say nothing of inter-organisational divisions - the chairmanship of EVCA can be a thankless task. Into the breach steps Uli Fricke,
managing partner of Triangle Venture Capital.
Wrangling over the AIFM directive may have neared a close, but a regulatory cloud is nevertheless closing in. Solvency II, Basel III and any number of other transatlantic banking accords
threaten to harm European private equity.
But Fricke is clear on her agenda. ln addition to taking the helm of an organisation determined to navigate its way through a tumultuous few years, Fricke has already managed to ensure
that the venture industry plays a vital role in the EU 2O2O innovation agenda, and also intends to improve performance data for the venture industry - potentially revolutionising the future
of a beleaguered asset class.
Indeed, after two successive buyout EVCA chairmanships in 3i's Jonathan Russell and Apax's Richard Wilson, Fricke plans to put venture capital back at the heart of the agenda.
“Substantial sums of additional money will be coming the way of European venture,” Fricke told Real Deals. “These things have taken up a lot of resource and have been a maior success,
unbeknownst to the wider industry.”
